New VoxEU column on trade secrets and supply chains

Together with Giacomo Calzolari and Alireza Naghavi, I have written a column for VoxEU/CEPR based on our paper Exclusive Secrets, forthcoming in the Journal of the European Economic Association.

The column sets out, in plain language, why weak trade-secret protection leads manufacturers to keep their suppliers exclusive, and what that means for the shape of global supply networks. The evidence comes from worldwide automotive-parts contracts.

You can read it here: Spilling secrets and shrinking chains: how weak laws narrow supply networks.

More on the paper is on my publications page.
